Bake the Perfect Baguette
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup warm water
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Place a baking stone or sheet in the oven to preheat.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a baguette. Place it on a floured surface and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Score the baguette with a sharp knife and transfer it to the preheated baking stone or sheet.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the baguette is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack.
